As business owners, you already know that there are lots of up and downs during the entrepreneurial journey. From the beginning tiny seed of your idea and trying to convince yourself (and friends, family, investors, etc) to believe in your vision to nabbing a huge clients, (or losing a huge client... ).
You don't get a paycheck for bad ideas, wasted
time and daydreaming. You don't get feedback on your ideas until they're
actually out there in the marketplace - in public! So, it's really important to
be clear on WHY you are on the entrepreneurial journey, especially for the
"down" moments!
Here are some top reasons, in no particular
order, for being an entrepreneur.
1. Freedom & Autonomy - If you've ever hated
having to follow someone else's rules, especially if they don't make sense or
you wanted to improve them and came upon to resistance to improvement, you've
felt the desire for more freedom and autonomy in your chosen career. When you
can decide from one day to the next to take some time for yourself, or your
family, you've experienced the sweet freedom of being your own boss.
2. Social Responsibility - Being able to give in
a big way to causes that mean something close to your heart is so amazing. Over
the summer, giving to a foundation and directly to some of the people I met in Uganda was
life-changing. The more you profit in your business, the more you can be a
giver.
3. Family - This is such a motivator for so many
entrepreneurs. Modeling living in choice for kids is huge so that they know
they have choices. And, of course, being able to give them more opportunities.
4. Control - When you're an entrepreneur, you're
really a creator. You have the ability and obligation to get your stuff out
there. And you are in control of whether or not you do get it out there in a
big way. Control is also about working the way you want to - making your own
rules. And when you want to change them, being able to do that, too.
5. Legacy - What will you leave behind? When
you're an entrepreneur, you're able to choose, mold and focus on creating
something of value that you'll leave behind after you're gone.
So what is your big WHY? What keeps you going
when times are difficult? Fully understanding why you are on this
entrepreneurial journey will help you through the hard times towards success!
